Riding for Austin!Welcome to Martha's Miles

      Riding for Cancer Survivorship

Thank you for your interest in Martha's Miles.   We are still in the process of updating the site content for 2007.  However, a lot of details about the ride are already up to date.  We hope to have all information complete by March 15.  If you would like information that you cannot find before that date, please use the contact page to drop us an e-mail and we'll get back to you as fast as we can.

The ride is a fantastic opportunity to challenge yourself and take on an adventure that few ever attempt. Sharing this with the other cyclists also give you the opportunity to make new friends and share a very special camaraderie. All while helping others in very challenging times. Start the ride of a life time...

    Describing the Ride

"Martha's Miles" is a series of bicycling events to raise funds for the National Children's Cancer Society (NCCS). The ride was first done as a trip between St. Louis and Chicago by two 14-year old friends in 1979 and then resurrected in 2004 by a group of five friends as an annual event.  In 2006, single-day and weekend rides were added to the St. Louis to Chicago ride.

This year, all events will start from and return to the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville Campus beginning on Saturday June 2, 2007.   There are two multi-day ride options.  The first is a two-day ride, ending in Bloomington, Illinois on Sunday evening June 3.  The second ends at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday, June 5.  The multi-day rides are all on lightly-traveled roads with only slight to moderate hills.

Proceeds benefit the National Children's Cancer Society and help support the invaluable services they provide to these special children battling cancer and their families.

PLEASE NOTE:  The single day rides for 2007 have been cancelled.  We will be back with them in 2008.

    Very Special Thank You

Our new website was done as a fall semester class project by the CMIS 470 (Structured System Design) class at Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville, led by Dr. Jo Ellen Moore.  The class mangaged the entire project from requirements gathering, through design, implementation and delivery, all in the course of one semester while completing the remainder of the work in this course.  The project was only one portion of the grade.

In typical user fashion, our wish list was long and much more of that list was accomplished than we ever imagined.  We'd like to give an extra big "Thank You" to Dr. Moore and her class.  Class members included:
